To ensure true randomness, the loot boxes make use of ChainLink's VRF which is a protocol on the blockchain that allows the generation of true random values in a predefined range of potential outcomes. This ensures that the minted NFTs have true randomness.
The team went with this method of randomness to insure the integrity of the process by utilizing a third party. Chainlink's VFR has been used by numerous successful projects with great success.
To ensure a true random outcome there could be a delay in the opening of the loot box if there is congestion on the network as two transactions need to occur. The first to confirm the transaction, and the second to receive random values.
